Captain’s Christmas Blog

“This is your captain speaking…”

After two good wins against Newport and Merthyr we slipped up in the following two games, going down to disappointing defeats away at Llandovery and Swansea. Those were games we could have, should have won, and that would have put us right up there at the top of the table putting pressure on Cardiff.

Most teams in this league can beat most other teams on any given day and that keeps it open but we know we have the ability to win and that we have a lot of potential to improve. We’re looking good as a squad – if we can keep fit and cut out the mistakes we will be in a good place. Youngsters like Morgan Richards and Mason Grady are coming in and making their mark and we look forward to having the experience of Chris Dicomidis back before long.

There is plenty of quality in our squad and it was great to see Morgan Sieniawski getting his caps for Wales Sevens over the past two weeks. His call up was well deserved and hopefully we can see him back in action for us soon.

We have two massive home games coming up over Christmas which will go a long way to defining our season, they are two ‘must win’ games for us to regain momentum in the league. We hope to have big crowds backing us against Llanelli and Cardiff, plenty of noise, plenty of passion and a bit of Christmas spirit.

Christmas Day will be a chill out day for me, having dinner over my mothers and a quiet pint in Abercwmboi Rugby Club but without overdoing it as we are in for training on Boxing Day. I hope that everyone else involved with the club can have a great Christmas and can celebrate in style with two big wins against Llanelli and Cardiff – that’s what I’ve asked for in my letter to Santa!
