In times of economic instability, the commitment shown by Egan Waste in continuing their partnership with Ponty Rugby has given a huge boost to the club.

The company have been instrumental in underpinning the club’s recent successes on the field, continuing a partnership that extends back to the commencement of the semi professional era in 2003.

The important partnership to further raise the profile of Pontypridd comes just weeks after work began on the £10.5m regeneration of the town centre to create a vibrant, attractive destination.

Pontypridd RFC is flying the flag for the town at a local, national and even international level after securing top spot in the Welsh Premiership and delivering strong performances in the British and Irish Cup.

Such attention will provide a massive boost to the profile of the town, with thousands of viewers via the television and, also, fans flocking to Pontypridd from all over for rugby matches.

As such, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is pleased to join forces with Pontypridd RFC, ensuring both parties work together to drive forward promotion of the town. 

Cllr Maureen Webber, Cabinet Member for Community Engagement and Council Business and Christian Hanagan, Head of Strategy, PR and Tourism at Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, visited Pontypridd RFC this week to officially launch the partnership.

They met with Pontypridd RFC’s Chairman, Roger Davies, Finance Director, Peter Howells, Commercial Manager Gareth Howells and players Owen Williams and Simon Humberstone to kick off the partnership. 

Cllr Webber said at the launch: “Work on the long-awaited regeneration of Pontypridd has now started and we are excited about what this will mean for the town, its residents and businesses.

“It has always been our commitment to secure the funding needed to create a Pontypridd for the future and now that is being delivered.”

Christian Hanagan added: “Events such as Ponty’s Big Weekend, the Big Bite and extensive programme of events in the town’s venues, such as Ynysangharad Park and the Muni, already attract thousands of people to the town.

“Currently standing at the top of premiership and doing well in the British and Irish Cup, Pontypridd have a very good profile and with BBC and Sky Television now giving significant airtime to these games, our partnership offers us an important opportunity to promote Pontypridd as a visitor destination and highlight the changing face and regeneration of town.
