Ponty miss chance

16.1.2003 U21's rue defeat

[icWales] PONTYPRIDD under-21s slipped to a disappointing 25-16 defeat against Premier Division rivals Llanelli at Llantwit Fardre last night.

To add injury to insult, the win moves the young Scarlets to the top of the league after an uncompromising encounter.

Despite their endeavours and domination of the game, Ponty were left to rue two sustained periods of pressure either side of half time which failed to yield any points.

The home side lay siege to the Llanelli line for long periods of the game but for the first time this season the Ponty attacks lacked both fluency and penetration.

Ponty are still very much in the title race and the home clash with Newport on Saturday, January 25 has added significance.

They lost the Black & Ambers early in the season and will be looking to avenge the 23-22 reverse.
