Symes signs for Pontypridd

Pontypridd RFC are delighted to announce the signing of Wales U18 outside half Jacob Symes from Swansea RFC. The 19-year-old former Cardiff Rugby Academy player has joined Ponty in readiness for the Club’s 2024/25 Welsh Premiership campaign.

The Rhondda product had been out in Australia in 2023 playing for the Vikings Club in Canberra, and helping the Brumbies U19s win their respective Super Rugby Australia age grade competition. Jacob returned to Wales last November and signed for Swansea on his arrival back in the country. He spent the second half of last season playing for the All Whites and made an appearance off the bench against Ponty when the Valley Commandos triumphed 30-22 at St Helen’s back in March.

On signing for Ponty Jacob said: “I’m looking forward to joining a prestigious club such as Pontypridd, which has a great history. I had a good opportunity to go and play in National 1 in England, but felt that at this stage in my career Pontypridd would be a good fit to push my career on. I’m still only 19 and very ambitious.”

On securing Jacob’s services ahead of the new campaign, Ponty Backs Coach Garyn Smith said: “Jacob is a young local valleys boy who we are excited to bring on board for next season. Even as a young outside half he has gained plenty of experience last season with Swansea and previously enjoyed a stint in the Australian domestic competition. We look forward to linking up with him in preseason and seeing him develop at Ponty next season.”

Welcome aboard, Jacob!
