RGC v Pontypridd – Match Preview

Pontypridd travel to Parc Eirias to play RGC this Saturday 22nd January, the rescheduled tenth and final round match in the Indigo Premiership Cup Eastern pool kicking off at 2:30pm.

It’s all to play for as we head up north to Colwyn Bay, a win on Saturday against RGC will likely see us qualify for the knock-out stages (barring some unlikely anomalies).

The top 4 teams from each pool in the east and west go through to the knock-out stages – Ponty sit in 5th position, one place and two points behind RGC who are in the all important 4th and last qualification berth – the winner takes-it-all. Whichever team finishes 4th will play away at Llandovery RFC in the quarter finals.

Saturday’s encounter will be Ponty’s first match since the 11th December 2021 when the Valley Commandos triumphed against Carmarthen Quins in the opening round of Welsh Premiership matches. RGC have played two matches in 2022 – they had a good win away at Llanelli early in the New Year and suffered a defeat at home against Cardiff last weekend.

Ponty have moved to bolster the squad and have signed Jacob Lloyd from Heol-y-Cyw RFC – the 23 year old fly-half, who has had experience of playing in the Welsh Premiership with Bridgend Ravens comes straight into the starting XV to make his debut on Saturday.

Skippered by Chris Dicomidis, the Pontypridd team selected to face RGC is as follows:

15. Llywarch ap Myrddin. 14. Morgan Richards. 13. Bradley Roderick. 12. Ceri Morris. 11. Dale Stuckey. 10. Jacob Lloyd. 9. Dai Jones

1. Ben Stephens. 2. Ieuan Morris. 3. Morgan Bosanko. 4.James Little. 5. Chris Dicomidis ©. 6. Cai James. 7. Sion Parry. 8. Joe Miles

Subs: 16. Nathan Huish. 17. Tom Devine. 18. Tom Harper. 19. Kristian Parker. 20. Jack Pope. 21. Cally James. 22. Garyn Payne. 23. Joel Raikes

Safe travels to all the Ponty faithful making the trip to North Wales for Saturday’s winner-takes-all pool match.
