Pontypridd v Pontypool – Matchday Preview

This Saturday 27th January Pontypridd RFC welcome Pontypool RFC to Sardis Road, the Indigo Group Premiership match kicks off at 2:30pm.

The two clubs have met twice already this season, firstly in a pre-season friendly at Sardis Road, then in the league back last October at Pontypool Park. Pontypridd won a good pre-season workout on August 12th 2023 by 28 points to 21 – Rob Jones, McCauley Rowley and Harvey Nash all got tries back in the summer. Then on Saturday 21st October it was Pooler that won a high-scoring contest 40-31 at Pontypool Park. McCauley Rowley, Joe Miles and Rob Jones crossed for tries whilst Josh Phillips added 15 points with the boot.

McCauley Rowley crossing for Pontypridd’s first try at Pontypool Park back in October.

To the here and now and the race for teams to finish in the all-important top 4 places in the Indigo Group Premiership is hotting up – Pontypridd sit in 6th position one place and four points behind 5th placed Pontypool.

Another big crowd is expected this Saturday with the travelling Pooler faithful expected to help swell the numbers on the Sardis Road terraces. Pontypridd will be once again smarting after last Saturday’s agonising loss at Bridgend, whilst Pontypool had the weekend off due to a frozen pitch at Pontypool Park scuppering any action against Merthyr.
