Matchday Preview – Pontypridd v RGC

This Saturday 16th December sees a return to action for the first time in over three weeks for Pontypridd RFC when RGC are the visitors to Sardis Road in the Indigo Group Premiership, the match kicks off at 2:30pm.

The two sides met at Sardis Road earlier this year on Saturday 15th April and it was the North Walians that edged a 67-point thriller by 35 points to 32 in glorious sunshine. Joel Raikes and Tommy Morgan scored the Ponty tries with Joseph Scrivens and Dale Stuckey sharing the rest of the points with the boot. It was a contest that could have gone either way and Pontypridd, determined to get the win turned down a late kickable penalty but their ambitions were in vain on this occasion, falling just short of claiming victory.

RGC’s win in April earned them a season’s league double as the Gogs had already beaten an injury-ravaged Ponty 42-3 the month before up at Parc Eirias.

Joel Raikes crossing for a try the last time RGC visited Sardis Road back in April.

Pontypridd will be hoping that two weeks without a match due to the freezing weather a fortnight ago, and a free Saturday last weekend hasn’t affected momentum following three league wins in a row against Swansea, Aberavon and Carmarthen Quins. The Valley Commandos will be looking to make it four wins on the bounce ahead of some huge matches over the Christmas and New Year period.
