Matchday Preview – Pontypridd v Bridgend

Next up for Pontypridd RFC is an Indigo Group Premiership clash against Bridgend Ravens on Saturday 14th October. The match at Sardis Road kicks off at the earlier than usual time of 1:00pm.

This Saturday’s match sees a return to action for all the Premiership clubs following a ‘week off’ on Saturday just gone. Last season Ponty and Bridgend met on three occasions, two of them coming on back-to-back Saturdays at Sardis Road in the first month of the 2022/23 campaign. On the 17th September 2022 Bridgend left Sardis Road with a 30 points to 26 win in the pool stage of the Welsh Cup. The following weekend Ponty gained revenge with a comprehensive 40-8 win in the Premiership – tries by Dale Stuckey and Aled Ward plus 23 points from the boot of Joseph Scrivens secured the win for the Valley Commandos that afternoon. The last time Ponty and the Ravens met was on the 14th January this year at the Dunraven Brewery Field, the home side took the spoils in an attritional encounter by 18 points to 8.

Aled Ward bundling his way over the line for a try during Ponty’s 40-8 win last season.

Ponty head into this Saturday’s match having registered a nail-biting one-point win away at Neath two Saturdays ago, Bridgend’s last match was on the 16th September when they won away at Carmarthen Quins by 22 points to 11. Ponty will be hoping that the two week break between matches will have helped in easing the team’s substantial injury list, good luck Saturday lads!
