Matchday Preview – Pontypool v Pontypridd

Next up Pontypridd RFC head into Gwent to play Pontypool RFC. The Indigo Group Premiership match at Pontypool Park on Saturday 21st October kicks off at 2:30pm.

Saturday’s match will be Ponty’s first visit to newly promoted Pooler’s ground for over 12 years. The last occasion that Pontypridd and Pontypool met in the Park was Saturday 17th September 2011. Tries from Dan Godfrey, Rhys Downes, Owen Sheppeard and ten points from the boot of Dean Gunter sealed a 25-10 win for the Valley Commandos on that particular afternoon.

The two clubs have already met this season albeit in a pre-season friendly at Sardis Road back on Saturday 12th August. Tries from Rob Jones, McCauley Rowley, Harvey Nash and a penalty try helped Ponty to a 28-21 win.

To the present and this week’s match will be a battle between 3rd versus 6th in the league respectively. Pontypridd have won their last two league matches to propel themselves into the top half of the table, whereas Pooler are on a four match winning streak in the Premiership culminating in an impressive 22-20 win at The Wern against Merthyr last Saturday – this week’s match has all the hallmarks of being a cracker!
