Matchday Preview – Ebbw Vale v Pontypridd

Next up for Pontypridd RFC is another floodlit Thursday night match in the Indigo Group Welsh Premiership – this Thursday 6th April we head into Blaenau Gwent to play Ebbw Vale, kick-off is 7:30pm and the contest will be screened live on S4C Clic.

Ponty’s last visit to Eugene Cross Park, now called The Ciner Glass Community Stadium was on Saturday 25th September 2021 in the Welsh Premiership Cup. In a match where try scoring opportunities were at a premium, it was the home side that came out on top by 16 points to 6.

Ben Burnell kicked Ponty’s 6 points during the team’s last visit to Eugene Cross Park in September 2021.

The teams met at Sardis Road back last December and despite falling behind in the match, Ponty rallied through Rob Jones’ brace of tries and a touchdown from Aled Ward to put themselves into the lead. However, Ebbw replacement Kieran Meek kicked a 79th minute penalty to deny the home side and the Steelmen headed home with a 23-22 win.

Last Thursday Ponty suffered defeat at home against Newport whilst play-off chasing Ebbw Vale won 15-13 away at Carmarthen Quins.
