Matchday Preview – Cardiff v Pontypridd

Next up for Pontypridd RFC is a short trip down the A470 to play Cardiff RFC at Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday 23rd December. The traditional festive derby match in the Indigo Group Premiership kicks off at 5:15pm and is being broadcast live on S4C.

Last season the two clubs met at the Arms Park on Boxing Day and Ponty found themselves trailing by just 7 points, 15-8 at halftime. Cardiff pulled away in the second half to seal a 39-13 win to achieve a season’s league double over Pontypridd.

The two teams met on the opening day of this season in what was the designated ‘derby weekend’ to kick off the campaign. Tries from Garyn Smith and Will Keep with the last play of the match saw the teams take two match points apiece from a thrilling 19-all draw.

Now to the present and both clubs find themselves in good form – Ponty are on a four game winning streak and sit in 6th position in the league with Cardiff just one place and 3 points ahead in 5th. The Blue & Blacks have won their last three matches consecutively in the league.
