Matchday Preview – Aberavon v Pontypridd

This Saturday 28th January Pontypridd travel to the Talbot Athletic Ground to play Aberavon. The Indigo Group Premiership match kicks off at 2:30pm.

Both sides had an enforced Saturday off from match action last weekend due to the freezing temperatures endured by the country. However, there was no ‘day off’ for the Ponty squad, they filled the empty void by making use of the fantastic facilities at the nearby USW Sports Park to partake in an indoor fitness session. The weather forecast for this week is looking milder so it should be game on in Port Talbot on Saturday.

Past meetings…

Ponty and Aberavon have played each other twice this season with the away side being victorious on each occasion. On Saturday 8th October Aberavon won 33-18 in the League at Sardis Road – for Ponty Joe Miles and Nathan Huish crossed for a try apiece, Joseph Scrivens kicked 8 points in defeat.

Then on Saturday 3rd December Ponty travelled to the Talbot Athletic ground for a Welsh Cup tie. The Valley Commandos knew only a win would be good enough to progress and an impressive performance from Ponty saw the team claim a 24-5 triumph and with it passage through to the semi-finals of the competition. Dale Stuckey dotted down for a brace of tries, Ben Burnell scored the other 14 points from the tee.

The Pontypridd RFC Supporters Club are organising transport to the ground – the bus will leave Sardis Road at 12:45pm with the game at Aberavon kicking off at 2:30pm.
