Match Preview – Swansea v Pontypridd

Pontypridd RFC travel to play Swansea RFC on Saturday 1st October in the Indigo Group Premiership, the match at St. Helen’s kicks off at 2:30pm.

Last season in a campaign shortened by the Covid-19 pandemic the two clubs only met once, at St. Helen’s, but there was no shortage of late drama. Ponty led 25-19 at the death thanks to two late Jake Lloyd penalties before Swansea hooker Owen Thomas crashed over for an injury-time try. With a conversion to win the game, All Whites fly-half James Davies saw his match winning kick drift wide and Ponty edged a nail-biting contest 25-24.

That was the past, this is the present – Ponty travel to Swansea this weekend on the back of a good performance which yielded a 40-8 win at home against Bridgend last weekend whilst Swansea will be buoyed by a 24-10 win away at Carmarthen Quins on the same afternoon.

This week it’s very much as you were in terms of Ponty’s team selection with only one change to last week’s starting XV – the hookers swap places with Rob Jones starting and Nathan Huish replacing him on the bench.

On the bench Garyn Daniel is drafted in to replace Tom Devine and the big news is the return of fan-favourite and former club captain Morgan Sieniawski. Morgan has joined Ponty on permit from local club Llantwit Fardre RFC.

The Pontypridd team selected to play Swansea is as follows:

15. Matt Bancroft. 14. Niko Matawalu. 13. Tommy Morgan. 12. Jordan Howells. 11. Dale Stuckey. 10. Joseph Scrivens. 9. Rory Harries

1. Ben Stephens. 2. Rob Jones. 3. Tom Harper. 4. Kris Parker ©. 5. James Little. 6. Aled Ward. 7. Cally James. 8. Joe Miles

Subs: 16. Nathan Huish. 17. Garyn Daniel. 18. Morgan Bosanko. 19. Chris Dicomidis. 20. Morgan Sieniawski. 21. Joel Raikes. 22. Ceri Morris. 23. Ewan Skuse
