Match Preview – RGC v Pontypridd

Pontypridd travel north to Colwyn Bay to play RGC this Saturday 9th April, the Indigo Group Premiership match at Parc Eirias kicks-off at 2:30pm.

It’s 5th v 4th in terms of current league standings with both teams locked on 26 points in the table, Ponty ahead courtesy of winning more matches. The clubs have met twice this season in the Indigo Group Premiership Cup, Ponty winning both ties but by very close score-lines – 40-38 at Sardis Road last October and 30-25 at Parc Eirias in January.

Both teams are currently on excellent runs in the league and between them have won 9 out of their last 10 matches, so Saturday has all the hallmarks of being another close contest between the two sides.

Ponty have made a few changes from last week, some enforced. In the backline Jake Lloyd starts at outside half and Messrs Morris and Payne move one place along the backline from 10 and 12 to 12 and 13 respectively. Llywarch ap Myrddin returns to the XV for the match at his old stomping ground and Lucus Welch makes his first start of the season at scrum-half. In the pack Rob Jones returns at hooker and James Little starts at second-row in place of Chris Dicomidis.

On the bench there’s a return for hooker Jack Walker who impressed at Newport earlier in the season. James Murphy returns to add his experience along with young winger Sam Hayman who’ll be looking to make his competitive debut for Ponty having been involved at our match at Swansea a couple of weeks ago. Another player hoping to make his debut for the club is prop Kai Carnell. Kai is a good young prospect who is on permit from Penygraig RFC whilst also being linked with Coleg y Cymoedd.

The Pontypridd team selected to play RGC is as follows:

15. Llywarch ap Myrddin. 14. Jac Davies. 13. Garyn Payne. 12. Ceri Morris. 11. Dale Stuckey. 10. Jake Lloyd. 9. Lucus Welch
