Match Preview – Pontypridd v Merthyr

This Saturday 12th November Pontypridd welcome Merthyr to Sardis Road in the Indigo Group Premiership, the Valleys Derby match kicks off at 2:30pm. It will be both sides first outings for a fortnight as there were no Premiership matches last weekend.

Last season the two clubs met three times throughout the year. It was one win apiece in the Welsh Premiership Cup during the early months of last season. On Saturday 2nd October 2021 Ponty won a close contest 21-14 at Sardis Road before Merthyr avenged that defeat the following month at The Wern. In the sole league match last season on Saturday 5th March 2022, Ponty sealed a dramatic late 19-17 win after Dale Stuckey converted a last-gasp Cole Swannack try.

Pontypridd will be looking to get back to winning ways following an agonising, last-second defeat a week last Saturday at home against Llanelli. Two days prior to Ponty’s match, Merthyr enjoyed a 37-7 bonus-point win at home against Carmarthen Quins in front of the Thursday night S4C cameras.
