Match Preview – Cardiff v Pontypridd

This Thursday 14th April Pontypridd make the short trip to the capital city to play Cardiff RFC in the penultimate game of our season, the Indigo Group Premiership match at the Arms Park kicks off at 7:30pm. The derby showdown is also being screened live on S4C’s online streaming service S4C Clic.

Ponty will be looking to end the season strongly and finish as high up the table as possible but will be fully aware of the challenge of taking on title chasing Cardiff on their own patch. Only a near-perfect performance will suffice for the men from Sardis Road to derail the Blue & Blacks title charge.

There are some bruised bodies following last Saturday’s encounter at RGC and physically it’s taken its toll for some. But there are welcome returns to the starting XV for Brad Roderick, Joel Raikes and Chris Dicomidis whilst Cai James starts having come off the bench last week.

Amongst the substitutes there are returns to the matchday squad for hooker Ieuan Morris, prop Tom Devine and lock Jack Pope along with another two potential club debutants. Firstly there’s a maiden matchday squad involvement for young back-rower Ffinli Barber. Ffinli, who has been part of the wider Ponty squad all season, has been playing for Pentyrch RFC throughout the current campaign. The other potential debutant is outside half Matthew Lewis who is on permit from Wattstown RFC.

The Pontypridd team selected to play Cardiff is as follows:

15. Llywarch ap Myrddin. 14. Jac Davies. 13. Bradley Roderick. 12. Garyn Payne. 11. Dale Stuckey. 10. Ceri Morris. 9. Joel Raikes

1. Ben Stephens. 2. Rob Jones. 3. Tom Harper. 4. Kristian Parker (c). 5. Chris Dicomidis. 6. Cai James. 7. Cally James. 8. Joe Miles
