Cole Parry signs for Pontypridd

Pontypridd RFC are very pleased to announce the signing of Cole Parry from Cambrian Welfare RFC. The 6 foot 5 inch second row who has just turned 22 years of age makes the move to Sardis Road ahead of the 2024/25 season.

Cole is a product of Gilfach Goch RFC playing all his mini and junior rugby and first year of senior rugby for Gilfach, without missing a match for the seniors. Impressing for the Welfare Park men he was scouted and signed by one of Ponty RFC’s former favourites Dafydd Lockyer and linked up with Abercwmboi RFC two seasons ago. Cole was then part of The Village’s successful promotion campaign from Division 2 into Division 1 in 2022/23.

Last season Cole made the move to Cambrian Welfare RFC and the durable lock only missed one game, helping Cambrian win the Division 1 League title and Division 1 Mid District Cup during 2023/24.

Cole proudly holding the Division 1 trophy at the end of last season.

Raring to go with his new club, Cole said: “I’m unbelievably excited to have the opportunity to represent such a prestigious club in Pontypridd RFC. Being a local boy myself it has always been a dream of mine to wear the illustrious black and white jersey. I’m looking forward to making my mark at the club and fighting for my place in the starting 15. I can’t wait to have the opportunity to run out at Sardis in front of Ponty’s amazing fans.”

As equally thrilled to see Cole make the move to Sardis Road, Ponty Head Coach Chris Dicomidis said: “We are delighted to get Cole signed up for next season as a number of teams were chasing his signature. Cole is a young second row who has learnt his trade first with Abercwmboi and then with Cambrian helping them reach the Championship last season. He joins a group of very talented second rows at the club who I’ve no doubt will help him develop and become a valuable member of the squad for hopefully many years. On meeting Cole you could sense his hunger and desire to wear the Ponty jersey which as a coaching team is what we are looking for. When not playing for us Cole will go back to his parent club Cambrian so he is getting rugby on a weekly basis. I look forward to seeing Cole during pre season and helping him reach his potential.”

Croeso Cole!
