Bridgend v Pontypridd – Matchday Preview

Next up for Pontypridd RFC is a trip to the Dunraven Brewery Field to play Bridgend, the Indigo Group Premiership match on Saturday 20th January kicks off at 2:30pm.

The two sides met earlier in the season on Saturday 14th October at Sardis Road. Tries from Rob Jones, Harvey Nash and a brace from Liam Lloyd secured Ponty a bonus point win by 29 points to 13.

It’s just over a year since Ponty last played Bridgend at the Dunraven Brewery Field. On Saturday 14th January 2023 it was Bridgend who won a scrappy affair by an 18-8 scoreline, Sam Hayman bagged a try to go with a Ben Burnell penalty for Pontypridd.

The recently departed Sam Hayman bagged Ponty’s only try at Bridgend a year ago.

On the weekend just gone Pontypridd enjoyed a fine 48-10 win over Neath at Sardis Road, bagging all five match points and have moved up to 6th place in the league in the process. Bridgend sit three places behind in 9th having suffered a 50-32 reverse at Merthyr last Saturday.

The Indigo Group Welsh Premiership league table, accurate as of 15/1/2024.

This Saturday’s match will be a poignant occasion as the hosts pay tribute to one of their, and Welsh rugby’s greatest ever players JPR Williams who sadly passed away last week. Pontypridd RFC would like to once again extend its sincere condolences to everyone at Bridgend Ravens following CEO Steve Reardon’s tribute to JPR in our match programme against Neath.
