Prop Ian George signs up for Ponty

Pontypridd have significantly bolstered their front row options with the signing of experienced prop Ian George.

Thirty-four year old George joins Ponty from Ebbw Vale where he spent the past two seasons.

Prior to that a long and distinguished career saw the former Wales Youth and under 21 cap play for Newport, Cross Keys, Ebbw Vale, London Welsh, Cardiff and Bedwas, with spells at senior regional level with the both the Dragons and Blues.

Packing down at loose head, and having already achieved his level two coaching badge, Ian George will be a valuable addition to the Pontypridd squad.

Upon his arrival at Sardis Road, George commented: “The opportunity to join Pontypridd at this stage of my career was a good one for me. I have played against Ponty on many occasions and appreciate the history, the values and the fantastic support that the club can call upon.

“I have played under Justin Burnell and with Dan Godfrey previously at Cardiff and know many of the players – Ceri Sweeney and Wayne Evans from my Dragons days and the likes of Jake Thomas, Rhys Shellard and Daf Lockyer from Crawshays tours.

“I will be looking to play as many games as possible, to help Ponty achieve the kind of success that has become synonymous with the club, also with my experience to help bring along some of the young props currently coming up through the ranks.”
