Ryan Wilkins joins Pontypridd RFC

Pontypridd RFC are delighted to announce the signing of Ryan Wilkins from Cardiff RFC. Securing the services of the 20 year old centre is another big boost for Ponty ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Ryan came through the Mini and Junior ranks of his local club Pontyclun RFC and captained Ponty Schools U15’s to Dewar Shield glory in 2018. A hugely talented youngster, he was snapped up by the Cardiff Blues regional pathway and played for their U16’s, U18’s, Academy and made two appearances for the senior regional side whilst playing for Cardiff RFC in the Welsh Premiership. Ryan played for the Blue & Blacks just last Sunday in the Welsh Premiership play-off final against Llandovery, and following the conclusion of the season now makes the move to Sardis Road.

Raring to go with his new club, Ryan said: “I’m really excited to get going with Ponty over the summer and to get in with the boys. It’s a club that has played a massive part in my development over the early stages of my career and I’m looking forward to my return to Sardis Road.”

As equally as pleased to see Ryan join Pontypridd RFC, Joint Head Coach Lee Davies said: “I think the signing of Ryan shows the intent of the club, he is a top end performer who has learnt his trade being in the academy at Cardiff Rugby and playing for Cardiff RFC. He had a tough season last year recovering from an ACL injury but has looked ever the quality performer in his return during the later part of the season for Cardiff.

I am fortunate enough to have coached Ryan since the age of 16 through the Cardiff Blues Age Grade pathway, and also during his 2 years at Coleg y Cymoedd. He is a powerful ball carrier with an excellent skill set and he will certainly add to our midfield options. Our focus as a coaching and management team is to get the right people on the ‘bus’ and Ryan is certainly one of those, he is a hard worker and an extremely likeable character who will fit in seamlessly to the current squad.

I look forward to seeing how Ryan develops over the next few seasons still only being so young. I am sure he will have a big future at our club.”

Welcome to Sardis Road, Ryan!
