Premiership round up – 18/01/20

Carmarthen cut Cardiff’s lead at the top of the Premiership to ten points following an impressive 29pts to 7 win over the capital team on Friday evening, and still with a game in hand, ensured that a title race could still be on the cards.

It was the relegation battle that took centre stage the following day. Ebbw Vale’s hopes of survival were given a boost as they posted a18pts to 5 home win over Pontypridd. Bridgend slipped four points adrift at the bottom of the table, going down to a 14pts to 35 defeat against Llandovery at the Brewery Field.

Merthyr let go an interval lead to lose by 19pts to 13 away to Aberavon, whilst RGC ran in seven tries as they saw off visitors Llanelli by 43pts to 21.

Swansea’s season remains on hold due to illness in the camp, their scheduled fixture away at Newport on Sunday being called off.
