Premiership East round up – 04/11/17

There was a change at the top end of the Premiership East table following the round of games played on the weekend of 4th November, with Pontypridd overtaking long standing leaders Bedwas.

The door was opened for Ponty as Bedwas suffered a 28pts to 25 defeat away to Newport on the Friday evening. Both teams scored three tries apiece, with an additional Angus O’Brien penalty for the Black and Ambers settling a close fought encounter.

Ponty took full advantage of Bedwas’ slip-up as they recorded an emphatic 45pts to 12 home win over Ebbw Vale the following day. The Valley Commandos had the bonus point wrapped up within fourteen minutes and went on to tally seven tries.

Merthyr continued their good run of results but had to fight hard to stave off a strong Cardiff challenge, overcoming a 7pts to 10 half time deficit to edge a 27pts to 23 win at Y Wern.

In the basement battle Bargoed dropped to bottom place in the table as they lost at home to Cross Keys by 9pts to 25.
