Premiership East round up – 02/09/17

Bedwas consolidated their ranking at the top of the Premiership East table as the only team with a maximum return of points following the round of fixtures played on the weekend of 2nd September.

The action got underway on Friday night as Pontypridd travelled to Ebbw Vale and came away with a valuable 6pts to 17 victory.

The following day Bedwas continued their good early season form, running in four tries to claim a 29pts to 7 local derby win over Newport. Cross Keys went down to a home defeat by 23pts to 34 against Bargoed, despite having edged a 9pts to 7 lead at the interval.

Reigning champions Merthyr went down to a first defeat of the new season, by 24pts to 17 at Cardiff. The Ironmen out-scored their hosts by two to three on try count but the Blue & Blacks making their kicks at goal count to claim victory.
