Ponty Youth stood down

Pontypridd RFC has unfortunately had to stand down its Youth squad for the coming season.

The WRU decision to change the youth age group from under 19 to under 18 proved to be critical, with Pontypridd losing up to ten of its most senior players at this level. The problem was greatly compounded by the fact that the club did not have an under 16 squad from the previous season to feed into the Youth section.

Despite being desperately short on numbers, Ponty Youth had managed to get through a pre-season itinerary with a series of 10-a-side friendlies played, but the writing was on the wall that a full competitive season could not be sustained.

The hope is that the under 16 squad for the season to come will form a solid base from which Pontypridd Youth can be re-established ready for the 2022-23 campaign.
