Lockdown Blog – Lowri Harris

Lockdown has affected so many families in so many different ways and for those people who have lost family members during this time, whether it be due to Covid19 or not, my heart goes out to each and every one.

In particular I’d like to pay tribute and express my condolences to Sian and David and their family on losing their wonderful mother, Brenda Thomas . It was a particularly sad time not only for Sian and David but for everyone who knew her at Pontypridd RFC.

For those of us who have been lucky enough not to have lost family or close friends, our having to stay home and stop working is a small price to pay to try and beat this awful virus. Although my expanding waistline is not too happy about my constant trips to the fridge!

I work not only in a childcare setting but also with three to seven year olds every Saturday morning with Mini Rugby Stars and I miss getting involved with these little dudes.  Getting back to work in the near future is not looking too hopeful as three year olds are very sociable little people who love to cwtch and play closely together, so social distancing in childcare settings would be impossible.

How odd is it not to have sport and in particular rugby in our lives at the moment. It certainly makes you realise the benefits of participating or being a supporter. The social aspect alone is what we are all missing.

This enforced lockdown has also made me realise how much I miss watching the Pont and look forward to the new rugby season and returning to Sardis with my nephew Noah.

Keeping busy is what is getting me through not being able to see my nephew and sister and so despite my little jogs to the fridge I have bought a mountain of gym wear and a kettle bell to try at least to get fitter.

The many recorded Ponty games in my possession have been dusted off (well the ones we won anyway – haha)  and we’ve used our spare time to revisit the many wonderful games and memories we’ve had as a family with Ponty RFC.

So stay safe and respect social distancing so we can all  get back on the terraces. Ole, Ole, Ole
