Injury update

Pontypridd will make the most of a three week break from competitive action to nurse some injured squad members back to full fitness. They might seek the services of a piano tuner during that time, not to attend to any musical instruments, but to soothe the highly strung hamstrings of some players.

Hamstring strains have beset three of the squad over the past few weeks. Having recovered from a shoulder operation, centre Ioan Evans suffered a setback in training, whilst Blues Academy flanker Cally James fell foul of a similar injury whilst training with the Wales Sevens squad.

Both Evans and James are now well on the road to recovery, the former already having had a run out with Ynysybwl, but the third hamstring victim, regional back rower Alun Lawrence could be sidelined for another month or so after picking up his injury early in the last home game against Bridgend. A similar timescale is being allowed for outside half Ben Jones (pictured above)to recuperate from a recent groin strain.

Centre Gary Williams and flanker Rhys Shellard have been under the knife to rectify ankle and chest/ shoulder problems respectively, whilst centre Alex Knott is still awaiting the results of numerous scans to assess the long term effect of concussion.
