Evans, Ioan

Ioan Evans signed for Pontypridd from RFU Championship club Cornish Pirates for the 2024/25 season, but he was already a familiar face to the Ponty faithful having played for the club’s mini and junior age grade sides, and then Ponty Youth before making his senior Club debut in the second half of the 2019/20 season.

Ioan was part of the Cardiff Blues academy and was allocated to Cardiff RFC when rugby resumed after the Covid 19 pandemic in 2021. He regularly turned out for the blue and blacks whilst also making his bow for the senior regional side. The summer of 2023 saw the powerful centre make the move to Penzance to sign for the Cornish Pirates ready their 2023/24 campaign. It was a successful season for the Pirates, the Cornishmen finished in second place in the RFU Championship with Ioan being a big contributor to their success.

Ioan was recovering from a shoulder operation so his second Ponty debut had to wait until a couple of months into the 2024/25 season. He then played a big part in the remainder of the team’s campaign contributing to Pontypridd lifting the Welsh Cup for seventh time at the Principality Stadium in April 2025. Ioan sustained a finger injury in the final and because of that didn’t make another appearance for the Valley Commandos before leaving the club at the end of that particular season.
