2024/25 Season Stat Attack
Pontypridd RFC played its 28th and final match of the 2024/25 season last Saturday against Merthyr RFC in the Mid District Premiership Cup Final. Following five pre-season matches, the campaign properly got underway on Saturday 14th September 2024 against Bargoed RFC in the Premiership at Sardis Road.
There were three trophies on offer throughout the season, the team ‘won gold’ when they lifted the Welsh National Cup for a seventh time back at the beginning of April, and had to contend with ‘silver medals’ in the other two competitions after finishing second in the league and runners up in the Mid District Cup Final – an excellent season, one of which the Valley Commandos will look to build upon in 2025/26.
That’s how the team fared, but what about the individual player stats? Well we’ve got you covered…
Appearances:
Once again Player-Head Coach Kristian Parker played in every single match during last season – the only player at the Club to do so, and has kept his own remarkable personal run going – Kris has played in every single game over the last four seasons since the Covid-restart!
Kris’ 28/28 appearances was closely followed by Ponty skipper Cally James and stalwart winger Dale Stuckey who both played in 27 games. The trio of Mitch Barnard, Morgan Bosanko and Lucus Welch featured in 26 matches whilst Stuart Floyd-Ellis, Rob Jones and Joe Miles appeared 25 times.
Top try scorers:
Powerful winger Joe Davies topped the Club’s try scoring charts with 16 tries during his first season since re-joining the Valley Commandos. Joe achieved this in just 15 appearances, quite the strike-rate! Joint-second on the top touchdown list were Joe Miles and Rob Jones with 12 tries apiece. Joint-third top try scorers with 9-each last season were Stuart Floyd-Ellis and Dale Stuckey.
Top points scorers:
Top of the pops on the points scoring list was young fly-half Jaydan Pugh who scored 114 points for Pontypridd during his debut season with the Club. In second place was Jacob Symes – another young outside half also in his debut season with Ponty, he amassed 89 points. In the bronze medal position for points was top try scorer Joe Davies, his 16 tries totalled 80 points and that put him third.
These individual stats are all well and good, but every member of the squad contributed to a hugely successful season. These are the cold hard statistics, but who will be recognised as Pontypridd RFC’s top performers during the 2024/25 campaign? All will be revealed at the Club’s End Of Season Awards Night this Saturday 24th May…
