150 not out for hard centre Gary Williams

Pontypridd centre Gary Williams will lead out the team for the home match against Carmarthen Quins on Saturday 28th April, as he makes his 150th appearance for the club.

Gary played his early rugby with Aberdare, and won youth honours with Wales and Great Britain in the League code. Drafted into the Pontypridd squad in the 2008-09 season, his first game was as a replacement fullback against Ebbw Vale on 28th March 2009 and his first start came a week later against Aberavon.

Gary appeared as fullback for many of his early games for Ponty, and his pace and excellent kicking game quickly turned him into a favourite with the fans. However, it was as a crash tackling centre that he literally made his biggest impact on the game. Although we all like to see backs running with the ball, what often brings the crowd to its feet is a crunching tackle, and nobody is better at it than Gary Williams.

Unfortunately Gary has been dogged by injuries during his rugby career, but he made his 100th appearance against Carmarthen Quins almost exactly three years ago, on 25th April 2015. He now passes another milestone for our club against the same opponents.

To date Gary has scored 29 tries and one conversion for Pontypridd, for a total of 154 points. Thanks for all your efforts for our club, Gary, and let’s hope that you can bash on to the 200!
