Hailing from the village of Glyncoch, Stuart Williams represented his local club at Youth level before moving on to Pontypridd at the same age group, and gaining representative honours with the Mid Districts.
Graduating through the Pontypridd under 21s Academy, Stuart then joined up with Gwent Valleys side Rhymney at senior level in the year 2000, spending the next two seasons playing for them. Following a spell with Cilfynydd, during which time he played on permit for Pontypridd in their 2003 premiership campaign, Stuart became a regular member of the Ponty senior squad for the following winter's campaign.
Maturing into a real physical presence in the Ponty front row, Stuart soon established himself as the number one choice for the loose head berth, offering a hard edge to the club's forward efforts in both set piece and open play.
The extended community that is Pontypridd RFC is in a state of deep shock following the untimely death of prop forward Stuart Williams on Monday 21st October 2013.
A stalwart performer on the field of play, a popular character off the field, Stuart was in every sense a cornerstone of the club.
Hailing from Glyncoch, Stuart had joined up with Pontypridd in 2003, making his senior debut on 15th November as a replacement against Aberavon. He made 6 appearances in his first campaign but the following season became a regular in the team making 28 appearances.
Stuart continued to serve Pontypridd RFC unstintingly in the front row over the next eleven seasons, making a total of 238 appearances in all competitive and friendly matches. His loyalty to the club made him the only player in the current squad to play every season of the new semi professional era.
A senior member of the Ponty squad, Stuart had also been involved as a player and assisting with coaching duties at Cilfynydd RFC.
The news that Stuart passed away suddenly at work on Monday came as a devastating blow to everyone who had the honour of knowing him, who had enjoyed his company as a one-off character and who had appreciated his immense contribution as a player.
Tributes and condolences have poured in from near and far in memory of Stuart Williams, his sad loss being felt by colleagues and supporters at Pontypridd and amongst the wider rugby community in Wales.
To Stuart’s young family, to his wife Vicky and children Harvey and Megan, to their extended family and close friends, our thoughts go out in deepest sympathy.
