Valleys Rugby - the Rally

Following the Pontypridd RFC v Neath RFC Premiership match on Saturday March 31st a Rally of supporters for the ‘Reform of Regional Rugby’ campaign will be held on the pitch and the Bob Bank at Sardis Road.

Fans will be asked to stay on the terraces after the final whistle to listen to comments by Owen Smith MP, representatives of Valleys rugby clubs and others campaigning for the restoration of professional rugby in the South Wales Valleys.

Those fans gathered at the ground will be the first to hear details of an Options Paper with supporting Business Plan and Research which will subsequently be submitted to the WRU, as the Campaign strongly believes that it is supporters and the grassroots clubs which should inform future decisions about the structure of professional rugby – not solely the Union and the Corporate structures of the existing professional clubs.

After the Rally a fund and awareness-raising dinner is to be held in the Grandstand Lounge at Sardis Road. Demand for the places at the dinner is such that the event sold out within days of being announced with a third of tickets being provided via the Supporters Club.

Guest speakers at the dinner include Stephen Jones, Chief Rugby Correspondent for The Sunday Times and Pontypridd rugby legend Tommy David.

Due to the demand, for those unable to attend the dinner, a celebration of Valleys Rugby and of Pontypridd RFC will be held in the main Clubhouse Bar where the big screen will feature highlights of the great days of club rugby in the Valleys.

We look forward to welcoming rugby fans from across the Valleys to what promises to be a day to remember.
