An item featuring the 'House of Pain' art exhibition will be screened on S4C's prime time evening programme 'Heno' tonight - Monday 25th June at 7pm. Pontypridd player Gareth Wyatt and media officer Guto Davies will make contributions along with artist Anthony Evans.
The essence of Valleys Rugby has been captured in the creative works of artist Anthony Evans, as displayed in an exhibition currently on show at the Aberdare Museum Gallery and aptly named ‘House of Pain’.
The paintings have transferred the unique character of the valleys on to canvas, and although the focal point of the paintings is the game of rugby, the landscape and mood of the surrounding communities also take prominence.
Originally from Cross Hands in Carmarthenshire, the artist Anthony Evans lived for many years in Pontypridd and Ynysybwl, and draws from his experiences there in the paintings exhibited.
“The House of Pain collection are largely concerned with rugby in the valleys and my experience of visits to the Sardis Road ground in the mid seventies” said Anthony.
“The experience of going to the match, the anticipation, the camaraderie, the dramatic lighting of these areas, which, combined illustrates that the true ‘heart and soul’ of the game rests in these communities.”
The House of Pain art exhibition is certainly one that can be enjoyed by all and is well worth a visit. It can be viewed in the Cynon Valley Museum & Gallery Aberdare and runs until the 14th of July.
