Valley boys on show as Premiership Select XV runs out at Sardis

Some of the best up and coming rugby talent from the Valleys will be given a chance to prove themselves as the Blues Premiership Select XV take on Bristol in the British Irish Cup this coming Saturday 14th October. The match will be played at Sardis Road, kicking off at 2:30pm.

There has been a strong Pontypridd representation amongst an extended Premiership squad that has been training in preparation for the big match.

Ponty boys Lloyd Rowlands, Alex Webber, Dale Stuckey, Diggy Bird, Joel Raikes, Dane Blacker, Chris Phillips, Huw Owen, Will Davies-King, Joe Page, Sean Moore, Shay Smallman, Hemi Barnes and Morgan Sieniawski have all been invited to train with the regional select squad this week.

The squad for the British & Irish Cup will be drawn from three clubs – Pontypridd, Merthyr and Cardiff, and from the ranks of the Blues Academy.

According to Blues Director of Development Clive Jones, the tournament will be an important one for the youngsters who will need to prove themselves against top opposition.

“Our aim is to nurture a true regional concept” said Jones, “also to showcase the quality and potential coming up through the ranks.

“We need to blood youngsters against quality opposition in Bristol, Leinster and Doncaster, but we need to protect them in a good environment by providing a mix of Academy and Premiership players.”

Admission to the Premiership Select v Bristol game on Saturday is priced at £5, access all areas of the Sardis Road stadium, giving supporters a great opportunity to watch quality rugby and to back their local valley players.
