The day the club ran dry

Pontypridd's away BIC tie at Ulster over the weekend entailed a first 'overseas' trip for the club's supporters since the fully professional era pre 2003, and they duly responded with a huge turnout and a "Belfast takeover."

The pubs in the centre of Belfast city on the Friday and Saturday nights had a significant input of high spirited Ponty fans. The Belfast Harlequins RFC clubhouse where the game was staged on Saturday had run dry of its stocks of Irish porter by 5pm as the Ponty fans set to the task of drinking the club dry.

The turnout of support for the Belfast trip again gave a clear indication that the spirit of Ponty Rugby lives on - undoubtedly the best supported rugby club, at any level, in Wales.

Pontypridd RFC would like to convey its gratitude to Ulster Rugby and in particular to the officials of Belfast Harlequins RFC who offered such warm hospitaility - and managed to get the Guiness back on tap by 6pm!
