Carly Hughes Hi there, if you have bought an ADULT ticket from the Groggshop for the Swalec Cup Final day please ring us on 01443 405001. Thanks.

  • 7's players

Pontyboy! Are Adam and Rhys in the Pontypridd squad or being released for Wales who play in glasgow next weekend?

    • winsky01 I heard they will be involved with Wales. It's not Ponty who release them for Wales, it's Wales who release them for Ponty. They are contracted to the WRU.

  • Scrum v

Ross Edwards Surprise Surprise! No fixtures for the super clubs this weekend, so no Scrum V being shown this Sunday despite two cracking games in the Welsh Prem. Absolutely disgusting!

    • pontyboy2 agree with you 100% ross bach. i contacted s4c about showing a weekly premiership game .as they do every week in sgorio for the soccer. what do you think ? no reply.and the very same people will be back at ponty for the playoff between us and whoever saying what a wonderful atmosphere etc etc. the welsh rugby union are going to reap what they sow in the not to distant future by ignoring the premiership and putting all their eggs in to a failing regional game that no one can identify with. may they rot in hell.

    • Ponty.net It's all budgets. The broadcasters need to arrange their season around the professional games - any week off means a cost saving.
I'm like you though - I feel very strongly indeed that the general public are missing out on watching some tremendous free-flowing Rugby.

      • ComeonthePont! Owz!!!!!!!!!!!!!
        Great to 'hear' you.
As regards the viewers missing great Rugby this was epitomised for me when friends and family of Aled Summerhill who I know attended the recent Ponty v Jersey game.
They often watch Regional stuff on TV and commented how much more attractive to watch the game v Jersey was with tries scored etc.
Still what viewers miss we are so fortunate to enjoy.
I watched Sarries v Toulon today in the HC semi and basically it was a bore, albeit fit and physical players in opposition.
Just a shoot out really with Wilko winning hands down.
        We are Pont
        We are fortunate
        We enjoy!

      • winsky01 Agree 100% with that and you can tell when watching Scrum V that they don't want to bother. The WPL highlights in their entirety only get a few minuted tops and the pundits don't want to say anything about them after. They don't give a monkeys.

        • RhwsPontyFan I have to admit that I no longer bother to watch Scum V as what they show and have to say holds no interest to me whatsoever. Since welsh rugby has gone regional the only TV channel to show any interest in welsh club rugby is S4C, and even they show very little now. We might be lucky to get the Swalec Cup on TV and possibly the Playoff final, but don't hold your breath.

          • RhwsPontyFan Just had another thought (things are getting dangerous, me thinking) S4C show games from the welsh college league quite regularly and they are quite entertaining, but I wonder who finances the televising of college matches when the interest in those games cannot surely be as much as interest in the Welsh Premiership? Nothing against college rugby mind, I think it is great that they are getting TV time, but who pays for it to be filmed? Is it the WRU?

            • Neil S Are the Cup FInal and Play Off final both being screened live?

              • Paul Gage Sure does Neil,............ Ponty will be the ones in Black and White (or maybe white and black or pink) ;-)))

                • Neil S I do remember Paul :-) Beleive it or not I have a new Rhino shirt.

                  • Paul Gage Hope he doesn't want it back !

              • celticponty not sure about the play offs but all three finals on saturday are live on s4c

                • Pontyboyo All cup finals, the play off semi final and play off final are all live on s4c I believe.

                  • biscuitboy If you've got the interest why not go Neil you could disguise your interest nder the banner of supporting grass roots rugby and get what yuo crave a Ponty fix...lol

  • league record

Neil S Has anyone every bettered Pontypridds record in the league this season of only losing one league game, or winning 95% of their games (21 from 22)?

  • Game 32 Prediction Results

Hoppy The Llanelli game was a strange one. We had so many chances and had most of the game but could not break free. just 6 points separated the teams but stats would have Ponty 70% possession eventhough territory was mostly mid field between the 22's not in them. It seemed the game plan was to run everything. But for me we sent the ball out wide too quickly, without setting up the phases and drawing in the defence. It resulted in our wingers being isolated and the ball being turned over or pens given. But that is a small gripe when we have had such a good season. Onto the predictions and the Hammond organ stands proud at the top of the table with a useful 11 point lead over the Pontydragon and 12 ahead of Biscuitboy. Biggest score goes to Mr Marshall with 18 who leaps to 6th place. So with 2 games to go it's still not over but will take something special to beat Mr Hammond. Until next week have a good week.
    HOLD THE LINE

    • Nightmare XV Wasn't the points Difference 9 points?

      • biscuitboy !8 points without a joker gotta be one of the best scores this season ..keep the pressure on the hamster

          • Neal Hammond Happy to be in the lead at this stage, but I'm not counting my chickens yet. Still two games to go. All I can say is I'll be predicting two Ponty wins. What else?

  • Super Simon

RhwsPontyFan It sounds as if Simon Humberstone had an amazing game? Well done to all the boys for a fantastic result yet again. Just two more important games to go now, and really looking forward to being at both. Come on the Pont! Best team in Wales.

    • Showboat13 He was superb. We have the 2 best outside halves in our league, and will be a tough choice who starts next week.

Also think Gavin Dacey deserves a mention, after a reasonably decent season, the last 4/5 games he has really picked it up a notch, and coped with Nic Reynolds with ease this afternoon.

2 games remaining, 2 trophies to win.

      • ComeonthePont! Excellent overall performance against a useful Llanelli side.
A 2:30 kick off in the sunshine! .just brill!
Thought Humberstone was magnificent, what a game controller he is, with great variation of tactics.
All were good, but thought Walsh, Clayton, Dacey, Humberstone, Raikes, Stuart, Corey, Tubbs, and the whole back row were standout.
Also got to say how well Owen Sheppeard has developed this Season into a class number 8.
Interesting selections for next week though I guess Adam and Shellard will be away?
Well done Pont - really enjoyed it and all played well with the named players being excellent.
Made my day, just a shame Bedwas couldn't sneak the win.
We can beat whoever we play, but we must respect them and play to our best as I am sure we will.
Noe the small matter of Neath next week......remember las Season! No more motivation needed!
        COTP

        • winsky01 I think Humberstone has given the coaches a headache for next week. The fact he was picked to start today obviously says Dai Flan is in pole position for the Cup Final next week but after today and the way he's played in recent weeks he has been superb and in my opinion edged ahead.

          • saethennin With Dai Flan and Humberstone alternating starts I suppose Dai might start the Cup Final and Simon return for the play-off Final. I agree that Simon gave an exceptional performance today, and I also thought that Clayton and Tubbs were immense too. After a ropey start (with those early missed tackles and two Llanelli tries I feared the worst during the first quarter) the team rallied and played with all the commitment and passion we've come to expect from this squad. It augurs well for next season that players like Sheppeard and Raikes are finishing the season on a real high and showing the enviable depth we've got in most positions.

            • Pontydragon I think the Chief has played the cards well, as far as Dai and Humbers. The have different skill sets, and each brings something different to the table. It must be hard for the opposition to only have less than 48 hours to prepare for the chosen one.
Both are OUTSTANDING! And don't think that Special K isn't watching, and planning a return home at some point. Boy, oh, boy, are we fortunate!

              • Neal Hammond I think Dai's extra experience of the Millenium just edges him ahead for the SWALEC, but Simon's form means that he has a great chance of being a starter for the league final play-off. And I'm not sure it will be against the Turks; the Drovers will be tough to beat in Llandovery.

  • Bedwas/Drovers

RhwsPontyFan Just heard : Bedwas 41 - Drovers 43 so Bedwas end up fourth.

    • Pontyboyo Bedwas and Llanelli both have 67, Bedwas have 13 bonus points, Llanelli have 11. I thought the team with more bonus points goes above? Or is it on tries? Llanelli have more tries.

      • Hoppy Positions are based on Points, then WINS, that's why Llanelli get third. One more win than Bedwas.

      • Sam Don't fear Llanelli.
We can do it! I would love to beat them again at Sardis!
One more win at home and we can stretch our record to 18 months!

        • Pontyboyo Thanks for clearing that up Hoppy. Sam, I don't fear Llanelli, just dislike them!

          • RhwsPontyFan Personally, I think Bedwas deserved to be in the playoffs, they were very unlucky today. The thing is : can Llandovery beat Llanelli at the Church Bank? We would all hope so?

            • odorocks I think the question is will the scarlets let them?

          • Neil S They always manage to sneak in don't they. Annoying! Well done Ponty on a win today but the spectre of regionally assisted cheats from down West still looms it seems

  • Today's game

Mogsy I must admit, I'm a bit apprehensive about today's game, and I just hope that it is not them that takes our ground record. I have every faith in the boys to get a result, but it would be just like them to spoil the day, it looks like they are taking this game really seriously.

    • Willsponty Sure our boys will have enough pride in our unbeaten home record to motivate them to the win by whatever margin, let's hope we thrash them and bedwas do enough to see them through!

  • Family tickets for cup final

Willsponty Is anyone aware of any restriction to family ticket as my wife may not be able to be there so was wondering if I could take my brother instead on my family ticket?

  • The blog is on!

    Pontydragon Ole'!

  • South Wales Even Post, Friday

Gareth Harris Llanelli head to Sardis Road third in the table, two points ahead of Bedwas, but they could miss out on a play-off spot if they come undone at the House of Pain and Bedwas see off the Drovers.
"We need to win," said Llanelli's head of rugby Anthony Buchanan
"It would take a huge effort from us, but we have to ensure it's in our own hands."
Llanelli are no strangers to Sardis Road — they have played the last two Premiership Grand Finals at the ground, claiming a surprise victory two years ago before losing out in a tight contest last season.
"I think our win over them in the 2011 play-off final will be there somewhere in the back of their minds, but they beat us convincingly on the two occasions we played them earlier this season," added Buchanan.
"They deserve to be clear at the top of the table but we know that on our day we are as good as anyone."
Llanelli bounced back from their surprise defeat by Neath at The Gnoll by registering a 41-17 bonus-point victory over Newport at Parc y Scarlets last Sunday.
"That was much more like it," added Buchanan.
"That was exactly what we were looking for. There were fewer mistakes, our set-piece was good and there was a desire from the team.

"The bonus point helped keep our play-off hopes in our own hands, which is important, and we've got to maintain a similar level of performance against Pontypridd.

"We've lost both our games against them this season, so it would be nice to get one back on them. They're a cut above the rest of the Premiership teams this season.

"There's nothing better than going to Sardis Road as the underdog. We need to go there and prove ourselves."

Former Scarlets prop Simon Gardiner, who has had recent spells at Rotherham and Cardiff, has been drafted in as front-row cover with brothers Aled and Shaun Hopkins injured, while Lewis Rawlins — part of the Swansea University side that won the Varsity match at the Millennium Stadium on Wednesday — starts at blindside flanker.

Behind the scrum, Buchanan has reshuffled his back division.

With Kyle Evans nursing a broken arm, highly-rated Coleg Sir Gâr flyer Josh Adams comes in on the wing, with Dale Ford switching to full-back.

  • Cup Final Tickets Help

Sardis-Exile Does anyone know if you can buy tickets on the day?. Cannot get down to Ponty before next Saturday as we are exiles. Would order off Ticketmaster but the only delivery option costs £5.50. Any help or suggestions please.

    • Jonathan Harris If it is the same arrangement as last year then the answer is yes, you can. I am also an exile, and last year tickets were on sale in the WRU shop on Westgate Street. The ticket covered the entire afternoon, so I watched two and a half finals! Can't imagine it will be too different this year.

  • Love this unbiased preview from Llanelli website

Pontyboy! Well it’s a case of perm any two from three clubs as far as the play-off’s are concerned. Llanelli, fellow regionalists Llandovery and Bedwas all go into the final round of Principality Premiership fixtures knowing that two spots are up for grabs. As it turns out, the play-off system has certainly added tension to what otherwise might have been a “dull” end to the season with “Ponty” having already secured top spot by a considerable margin.

After our setback at Neath just over a week ago, we got back to winning ways against Newport at the “Parc” last Sunday to keep our play-off hopes alive. The boy’s now have the opportunity of going up to Sardis Road to take on the best side in the league and turn them over on their own patch. A huge ask, but we’ve done it before so why not this time round eh!

Of course “Ponty” will be looking to end their regular season on a high themselves and they’ll have no greater incentive than to maintain their unbeaten home league record this season by beating the team that has featured in the last two play-off finals. Beat us and realistically other than Llandovery beating Bedwas it would be our final game this season.

So with the Scarlets not having a game this week, it’s a great opportunity for our supporters to get behind the boy’s - Yes we all know how tough “Ponty” will be, but with the talent on show in the Llanelli side, get it right on the day and we’re capable of beating anyone.

Look forward to seeing you in Sardis Rd on Saturday.

    • Graham Sorry, but it seems reasonable to me.

      • ianto Must agree with Graham, can't see anything wrong there. At least they are trying to get some interest and support in the game.

  • Predictions

    Pontydragon Where is everybody????
Time to kick ass, and take names!!! Let's close that door in style!!!!

    • The_Sion_King We were all waiting for the team announcement PD! A mix and match Ponty team with one eye, quite rightly, on next weeks cup final. Up against a strong but fair Llanelli team. Should be a good honest game with plenty of young talent on show. Lets keep our magnificent home record going!!

      • biscuitboy difficult to predict how well we'll do with so many changes week to week but the only prediction that counts is that we beat the turks like a sheet of cheap tin

      • MC Phill Can't get much sense on my phone so bear with me:

        Ponty 28-26 Llanelli (HT 14-12)
        8 Tries - Ponty 4 Tries - 4 Pens - Ponty 2 pens - 1st Try Ponty 11 / Last Try Ponty 8 - Cards 3 - Bob Ponty No 8

        • Strides Looking forward to a good open game, 2 opensides last week 2 blindsides this week ??

          • Neal Hammond We need: forward domination, brilliant defence. You've delivered all season boys, keep it up for three more games!

            • Paul Marshall Here is mine, last hurrah and lets keep them out of the playoffs where they deserve to be!!

              • Hoppy Last of the regular season games and who better. I hope the weather is good. We should see fast open game with free flowing rugby. At its best. With Ponty coming out on top. Nod also to Bedwas with their game against the Drovers. If the play-offs were for a separate trophy they would be more meaningful to me. To be 24 points ahead of the pack and not be recognised as league champions or even league winners is a folly. But that's the rules (this year).
                HOLD THE LINE

                • Hoppy Did it again. I forgot the Golden Bob. I'll pick Ponty 4

                • ComeonthePont! Expect a fast game with llanelli going for tries.
Onbiosulsy we should be champions but that is old stuff now so go for it Ponty.
I think we can sneak it but Llanelli will get necessary points for playoffs too imo
Let's get behind the boys as there will be a lot of Sospans there!
                  COTP

                  • ianto Good luck Pont!

                    • winsky01 Sorry Hoppy but I'm going to have to type mine out this week. I usually post in work but unfortunately the advertising banners covering the screen as many have also said prevented me from posting in a Word Document as they were covering the 'attach' button. Here goes -

                      winsky01 - Game 32 vs Llanelli (H)

                      2 Yellow cards
First try scorer - Cory Hill

                      Golden Bob - Cory Hill
                      Joker - No

                      • ComeonthePont! Thanks for mentioning the banners again Winsk still a pain from time to time
I know Owz has given up ....never even have a post from him anymore?
                        Is he there?
                        COTP

                        • winsky01 I know Owz says that to solve it we need to update our computer to a suitable browser but that just isn't possible for me unfortunately. The computers in my workplace are networked and I could just imagine if I rang up our I.T. department in London to tell them to change the company's browser so I can read and post on Terrace Talk on Ponty.net lol!

  • TEAM NEWS

JDW lets give the Turks a warm Sardis Road welcome on Saturday. and send them home empty handed..lol

  • llanelli team for saturday

ianto Llanelli RFC Team v Pontypridd RFC Principality Premiership Saturday 27/4//13 k.off 2.30pm

15 Dale Ford 14 Kristian Phillips 13 Nic Reynolds 12 Chris Keenan
11 Josh Adams 10 Jordan Williams 9 Justin James
1 Rhys Thomas 2 Kirby Myhill 3 Jamie Kaijaks 4 Adam Powell (capt) 5 Nathan White

16 Tom Sloane 17 Craig Hawkins 18 Lewis Rawlins
19 Greg George 20 George Hardy 21 Johnny Lewis 22 Steffan Hughes 23 Ben Leung

    • winsky01 Strong team from them. To my knowledge Phillips, Reynolds, Jordan Williams, Myhill and I think Justin James all have a few regional games under their belt this season. Still, we are more than capable of beating them. Our side looks decent considering we've got more than one eye on next weeks Cup Final. Only concern for me would be over Lockyer, not in the matchday squad and not mentioned in the article. If he didn't start in the final that would be a massive blow for us.

      • ComeonthePont! Agreed Winsk - Daf hasn't featured at all of late and is needed

        • Pontyboyo I'm huge fan of Daf and would obviously prefer to have him fit and in the squad but Gary Williams' performances have been outstanding in Daf's absence. We have an embarrassment of talent in the squad in all positions.

      • JDW from the news page: "Centre Dafydd Lockyer has been resting a persistent groin strain of late, an injury which requires regular assessment, but is hopeful of making a return to action imminently."
        full injury update link below:

        • winsky01 That was last week wasn't it?

    Llandovery win and

    Ponty win = 2) Llandovery, 3) Llanelli

    Ponty v Llanelli draw = 2) Llandovery, 3) Llanelli

Llanelli win = 2 & 3) Llandovery & Llanelli (depends on bonus points)

    Bedwas win and

Ponty win = 2 & 3) Llandovery & Bedwas (depends on bonus points)

Ponty v Llanelli draw = 2) Bedwas 3) Llandovery or Llanelli (depends on bonus points)

    Llanelli win = 2) Llanelli 3) Bedwas

Ponty v Llanelli draw = 2 & 3) Llandovery & Llanelli (depends on bonus points)

So much is dependent on the bonus points. Going to need another abacus :)
