Re Taff Vale Park Pontypridd changing rooms development
You may be aware that we have an RCT 21 year lease on the historic Taff Vale Park in Pontypridd.
The park is situated to the rear of Parc Lewis Primary School. We have in the past received some funding from Sportslot and erected rugby posts and renovate the playing surfaces etc using our own members as labour.
We have tried for some considerable time to secure funding to provide 20th century facilities such as changing rooms and showers etc at TVP. Currently there are no facilities what so ever. We have been unable to secure any funding, despite much effort.
Consequently our teams and our opposition have no facilities to prepare for or clean up after the matches. We currently have over 200 children registered with our section and not to be able to offer such basic facilities is, I’m sure you’d agree, in 2009 is a very poor state of affairs.
The facilities, once established, will be available to the whole community. This will include the local schools. Running costs will be bourne by us, as the pitch and its maintenance are currently.
During the summer we would be happy to allow summer sports to be played there or for school fetes etc.We have planning permission for the project and we would like to start work on it, using the contributions in kind from our members, supporters and benefactors very soon.
We have also had some promises for donations of material from local companpies and individual members of the public. The Governments, at all levels, quite rightly stresses the need for children to be more active and engage in sport.
That’s why we wish to secure funding for such basic facilities, indeed; it is somewhat of a mystery to us as to why we have been apparently overlooked as providers of what we are told should be happening and encouraged.
We have estimated that the material costs to be in the region of £50,000 and are now requesting help from you no matter how by direct donation of money or materials or by your own labour. Please contact me or any Committee member with any ideas or contributions.
Thank you for your support.
