With the Pontypridd squad going flat out in pre-season training, there are inevitable summer injuries to report, with two players looking at long term recuperation.
Wing Chris Clayton faces the longest lay-off, with major surgery on a long standing hip problem imminent, and the prospect of a few months recovery time to follow.
Lock Chris Martenko is also due to go under the surgeon’s knife, to remedy a back injury in his case, and a recovery period of six to eight weeks expected.
Injuries of a more minor nature amongst the squad include a knee strain suffered by flanker Wayne O’Connor, the recurrence of a hamstring strain for hooker Huw Dowden and a stomach strain affecting wing Lewis Williams. All are expected to be there or there about in terms of regaining fitness for the start of the pre-season friendlies.
Making good recovery from long term injuries carried into the summer break are centre Dafydd Lockyer and scrum half Kristian Baller.
Having undergone double surgery on a groin strain, Lockyer is now back firing on all cylinders and hoping to make an impact at the start of the new campaign. Baller has recovered from a hairline fracture of the foot, and although hampered by a hand injury suffered in work, will be back in contention when action commences.
