Born in Aberdare, Dai Shellard gained international honours with Wales Youth and Schools, before going on to play for his local club of Aberaman at senior level.
Moving on to Pontypridd, Dai made an impact as an abrasive second row or back row forward, scoring a total of thirty-one tries for the club.
Dai was a member of the Pontypridd line up who played against Bridgend in the 1979 Welsh Cup final.
Employed as a fitter, Dai Shellard gained further representative honours with Glamorgan County.
