The Pontypridd squad will have its first taste of competitive action this coming Sunday 1st August, as it enters the Abercynon Sevens tournament, and doing so as defending champions.
The action will kick off at noon with Ponty playing the first pool tie of the day against host club Abercynon. To retain the trophy which they have won on the past two occasions, Ponty will have to battle hard against quality opposition, including three other Premiership clubs in Cardiff, Neath and Aberavon.
A ten man squad has been named for the Abercynon Sevens tournament, with trialist full back David Gratton from Rhydyfelin joining new recruits Garyn Lucas and Jake Thomas in the line up.
The Pontypridd squad to contest the Abercynon Sevens is named as follows:
Backs:
David Gratton; Matthew Nuthall; Adam Thomas; Owen Williams; Dean Gunter; Garyn Lucas.
Forwards:
Chris Dicomidis – cpt; Jake Thomas; Tom Hetherington; Darren Waters.
