September's Player of the Month: Richard Parks

18.10.2002

The first ever winner of the Pontypridd RFC / Worthington Player of the Month Award is Richard Parks.

Paul Doubler Sponsorship & Communications Manager of Coors Brewers, sponsors of this new award, said, "We have been delighted and overwhelmed with the votes cast by Ponty fans. It shows the quality of the squad and the all round ability and dedication, that in fact fans voted for sixteen different players. The enthusiasm and commitment to the club shows the great strength of the team. So many fans spoke passionately of the reasons why their own nomination should win the award.

However the clear winner receiving almost 40% of the votes was Richard Parks. Even though he has missed the last few games through injury the strength of his performances throughout September made him our clear and very popular first winner. Second with 15% was Ceri Sweeny and with a tie for third place we had Nick Kelly and Brett Davey with 9% each".

Prior to the kick off in the Parker Pen European Challenge Cup game against Roma, Coors Account Manager for the club, Stuart Collins, will present Richard with his Worthington Player of the Month Crystal Trophy. They will be joined by winning fan drawn from the Worthington barrel, Mike Davies of Pontyclun, who, besides the honour of getting on the famous Sardis Road pitch to meet Richard also wins two dozen cans of Worthington.

Club supporters while enjoying the clubs great run of form, while watching games throughout October should be thinking about who towards the end of the month will be their selection for the October Player of the Month. It will certainly be no easy task!
