Rhondda Districts under 13's finished the season with an impressive 12pts to 15 win away to their Cardiff counterparts at St Peters RFC.
Again it was a big defensive effort, in which full-back Garrin Roderick (YGG Y Cymer) led the way that set the platform for Rhondda's victory. A huge commitment to the tackle area meant that Cardiff were always on the back-foot. Flanker Thomas Davies (Ferndale Comp.) and lock Chris True (Treorchy Comp.) had storming games, smashing rucks and mauls, and scattering defenders whenever they charged for the ball.
For much of the first half both sides battered each other to a stalemate, but a lapse in concentration allowed Cardiff to score. However, Rhondda replied immediately through centre Ryan Evans (Tonyrefail Comp.) who outflanked the defence to cross for the try. This was soon followed by a great driving maul from thirty-five metres that gave Rhondda captain Callum Thomas (Tonyrefail Comp.) a deserving try and Rhondda a 7 - 10 lead.
A lost ball against the head in a scrum however saw the Cardiff scrum half sprint clear for a great opportunist try. With the referee signalling a minute left and Cardiff now leading, Rhondda threw everything into attack. Thomas Davies spun and burst clear past several defenders before being brought down, but hard working lock Nathan Jones (Treorchy Comp.) was on hand to continue the break and Rhondda no.8 Will Griff John (YGG Y Cymer) finally powered over for the winning try.
Rhondda try scorers: Ryan Evans, Callum Thomas and Will Griff John.

Representing Ponty was Pontypridd under 12's player Dale Hughes. Dale normally represents Rhondda at under 12's, but often substitutes for the 13's. Dale came on at full-back in the frantic final minutes of the second half when Rhondda clinched their dramatic victory.
