Rhondda Schools under 15s continue to progress in the 2009 Dewar Shield tournament, recording an impressive victory over their Swansea counterparts to reach the final.
Rhondda had topped their group, at the expense of local rivals Pontypridd Schools, to qualify for the quarter final round in which they were drawn against Cardiff. The tie was played as a curtain raiser to the Glamorgan Wanderers v Pontypridd premiership match at the Ely Memorial Ground on Saturday 28th February, with Rhondda claiming victory by 10pts to 0.
The semi final round of the Dewar Shield was played on Saturday 14th March, with Rhondda once again triumphant, against a physically imposing Swansea Schools side, by 31pts to 11.
Rhondda Schools have now qualified for the Dewar Shield final for a tenth time in eleven seasons, an unprecedented achievement and a huge accolade to coaches Chris Jones and Neil Boobyer.
There are three representatives of the Pontypridd RFC under 15s team in the Rhondda squad – Adam Harcombe, Josh “Ted” Edwards and Dale Hughes, all of whom are pupils at Porth County Community School.
