Premiership round up

The Premiership fixture programme was a pretty disjointed one over the weekend of 12th March, due to the Six Nations internationals, but with many important ties being played.

On the Friday evening Pontypool battled to a 18pts to 16 home win in a typically tense Gwent derby against Cross Keys, thus putting a points cushion between themselves and the bottom of the table.

On the same night Llandovery also did their survival hopes a power of good by claiming a famous win away at Swansea, if only by the narrowest of margins – 18pts to 19.

The relegation struggle continued in focus on Saturday 12th March as Carmarthen Quins played hosts to Glamorgan Wanderers. The Quins took the honours in emphatic fashion, notching up seven tries as they progressed to a 50pts to 25 win, consolidating eleventh position in the table with the Wanderers consigned to bottom place.

On Sunday Llanelli once again proved their calibre as potential title contenders, claiming a 33pts to 25 bonus point home win over Newport.
