Three of the top four Premiership teams suffered defeats on Saturday 14th January, with other mid-table teams making up ground behind them.
Leaders Llandovery lost out at Neath, who themselves moved up to second place courtesy of their 28pts to 15 victory.
Pontypridd moved up to third place but only in gaining a losing point away to Bridgend. In the proverbial game of two halves Ponty led comfortably at the interval but their old boy Dai Flanagan doing the business for Bridgend, his last kick penalty sealing their win by 16pts to 15.
Aberavon suffered a second successive defeat, going down at home to Swansea by 6pts to 15. There were home defeats also suffered by Cardiff and Cross Keys in two close encounters. Cardiff squandered an interval lead of 23pts to 16 to lose out to Bedwas by 23pts to 27 whilst the Keys suffered in similar fashion eventually losing to Carmarthen Quins by 22pts to 23.
Tonmawr’s dismal season was summed up as any hopes of a first win generated by their half time lead over Newport evaporated in the second period, succumbing to defeat by 13pts to 20.
