Premiership East round up – 11/11/17

Pontypridd held on to top spot in the Premiership East table but only after surviving an almighty comeback by Newport on Saturday 11th November.

Ponty were at one stage cruising into a 47pts to 24 lead, but Newport capitalised on errors made to fight back to within two points, with both sides ending on a try count of seven in a thrilling encounter.

Merthyr kept close on Ponty’s heels with a 12pts to 23 away win at Bedwas, their hosts going down to a third successive defeat and falling off the pace having been early league leaders.

On the Friday evening Cardiff battled to a 18pts to 10 win over Bargoed at the Arms Park, consigning their opponents to bottom position in the table. Equal on points with Bargoed are Ebbw Vale who went down to a 20pts to 34 defeat at home to Cross Keys, who ran in five tries to claim a bonus point.
