Pontypridd RFC Schools Initiative links up with Dewar Shield squad

Pontypridd RFC is setting up a Schools Initiative which will see the club enhancing its links with Pontypridd Schools under 15s during the coming season.

The Dewar Shield age group will be mentored by Ponty Head Coach Justin Burnell, with prop Joe Popple also taking on the role of Forwards Coach. Other senior players will be involved in training sessions with the youngsters as the season progresses.

Pontypridd Schools finished in seventh position in the 2016-17 Dewar Shield table, winning three out of nine games played in a tough competition, which near neighbours Rhondda Schools eventually won.

The Pontypridd RFC Schools Initiative will now hopefully give the Schools under 15s squad a boost in gearing up for the season to come.

The campaign got off to a good start last week as Pontypridd Schools battled to a 24pts to 22 victory against a very competent Worcester Warriors Academy team in a game played at the University of South Wales fields in Nantgarw.
