It was Ponty who finished the first half the stronger, scrum half Carl Thomas burrowing over for a try and Owen Jenkins then cruising in for another touchdown, both scores converted by Flanagan for an interval lead of 38pts to 13.
A whole raft of changes made during the break inevitably cost Ponty their momentum, and with errors made to compound their frustration. It was winger Owen Williams who finall broke the deadlock with a try wide out. Late scores claimed by wingers Harry Davies and Matthew Nuthall and back rower Jordan Sieniawski, converted by Lewis Williams, Geraint Walsh and Dai Flanagan respectively were a reflection of the home team’s improved cohesion, running out as 64pts to 13 winners.
