Pontypridd put their period of enforced mid-winter inactivity behind them in emphatic style with a rampaging 94pts to 0 home cup win over Felinfoel – and it could have been more!

The game was sparked to life with just four minutes on the clock as Ponty flanker Chris Dicomidis threw a huge dummy and galloped clear for an opening score. Pace was a key factor for the home team, with tries following in quick succession for Lewis Williams, Adam Thomas and Chris Martenko. As centre Aaron Bramwell cruised through the middle to score, and with outside half Dean Gunter adding the conversions from all angles, Ponty were 33 points clear with barely twenty minutes gone.

Industrious winger Chris Clayton was next to cross, followed by Kristian Baller, Matthew Nuthall and dynamic flanker Darren Waters, hoisting Pontypridd into an interval lead of 59pts to 0.

Neat interplay at the beginning of the second period indicated that Ponty would not ease up, with Matthew Nuthall crossing for two tries in quick succession. Visitors Felinfoel occasionally looked shell shocked, but enjoyed their own brief periods of pressure to add to the spectacle.

Just like the town’s inner relief road system, it was however mostly one way traffic, with Ponty applying wave after wave of attack. Tries from Chris Clayton, Lewis Williams and Clayton again saw Ponty racking up the points, with Dean Gunter deadly in his ablity to convert the scores.

A century score for the home team seemed inevitable, but the referee blowing up with a full ten minutes remaining, bringing to an abrupt halt a try fest which Ponty had thoroughly dominated with 94 unanswered points.
