Pontypridd Youth played their penultimate Blues A league tie of the season against Merthyr Youth on Saturday 15th April.
Although the match was scheduled as a home fixture, the game was moved at short notice to the Porth Harlequins RFC ground. Pontypridd Youth would like to thank the committee and officials at Porth Harlequins for hosting the match at such short notice and for all their help and support on the day.
Although victors in the reverse away match earlier in the season Ponty Youth expected a hard fought encounter against a strong Merthyr team.
The early exchanges saw Ponty gain turnovers at the breakdown and then work the ball out wide to score in the corner. This set the pattern for much of the game with a dominant Pontyridd back row creating turnovers and carrying the ball deep into the Merthyr half. This coupled by a solid team effort both in defence and in attack allowed Ponty to control possession, creating numerous opportunities to score.
Merthyr worked hard both in attack and defence but were unable to maintain possession long enough to create any clear cut chances to score. The final scoreline reflected the hosts' dominance with Pontypridd Youth running out as victors by 50pts to 0.
