As expected, the current campaign is proving to be a difficult one for Pontypridd Youth, but although the results have mostly gone against them, there are definite signs that the young squad are on a sharp learning curve to improvement.
A squad based mostly on last season’s under 16 age group have found the going tough against older and more physically mature opponents week in week out, particularly in the competitive environment of the Blues B League.
Their cause has not been aided in any way by a fixture schedule decimated by the recent bad weather, denying the Youth more opportunities to improve their game. The month of December was a complete wipe-out and since then Ponty Youth have played just three games, winning one and losing two.
On 8th January Ponty went down to a narrow defeat in a friendly at Crumlin by 8pts to 13.
Almost a month passed by before the next game on 5th February, with Ponty registering a morale boosting away win against Talywain Youth by 14pts to 0.
On 12th February Ponty Youth resumed their Blues B League campaign, and suffered a home defeat against Abercwmboi by 12pts to 27.
